Waterfalls In Taupo

Beautiful Waterfalls throughout the Taupo region

The Taupō region has a handful of waterfalls worth making the effort for, ranging from New Zealand’s most visited natural attraction to quieter backcountry cascades. Huka Falls is the standout — a narrow gorge on the Waikato River that forces 220,000 litres of water through every second, free to visit and just minutes from town. Further out, Waipunga Falls and Tarawera Falls reward the short drive with multi-tiered drops through native bush, while Tawhai Falls — known as Gollum’s Pool from its role in The Lord of the Rings — sits inside Tongariro National Park about an hour south.
