About Crown Park
Crown Park serves as the main base for organised football in Taupō and hosts matches, training and tournaments for Taupō AFC and visiting teams. The eight fields are laid out to standard competitive dimensions and benefit from pumice soils that drain quickly after rain, keeping the grounds playable for most of the year.
Six changing rooms with showers support home and away teams during matches and training sessions. The site also accommodates school sport events and regional tournaments, drawing significant numbers of participants and spectators on weekends.
Ample car parking is provided on site for match days and events. Bookings for exclusive use or tournaments are handled through Taupō District Council’s online booking system.
BMX and Pump Track
Crown Park includes a BMX track alongside a sealed pump track completed in 2023. The pump track was funded in part by a local family in partnership with Kids Bike Taupō to promote cycle skills. It offers a flowing surface suitable for riders of varying abilities, from beginners who can ride without pedalling to more experienced riders working on technique and speed. The facilities are free to use outside organised club events.
Football at Crown Park
Taupō AFC, established in 1956, is based at Crown Park and fields teams across junior and senior grades in regional competitions. The club uses the grounds for home matches, training and development programmes. The park regularly hosts large junior tournaments, including events that attract teams from across the North Island.
What Visitors Often Say
Parents and players appreciate the well-drained fields that stay usable after rain and the convenient changing facilities for match days.
Families enjoy the pump track as a fun, free activity for children and note that it complements the existing BMX track well for skill-building.
