What ERO found

The Education Review Office’s latest report on the school is a Te Ara Huarau School Profile Report from December 2023. It set out how ERO and the school would look at how well the school’s curriculum supports hauora, engagement and fair outcomes for every learner.

ERO pointed to the WHAIA values, which guide learning and hauora across the school and community, close working relationships with whānau, hapū and Ngāti Tūwharetoa, culturally responsive relationships that are well embedded, and leaders and staff who work together on improving outcomes. The school had Level 1 Rūmaki classes at the time.

The school’s priority is targeted leadership to make its curriculum, teaching, learning and assessment consistent across the school, along with strategies and systems that support hauora, engagement and better attendance. ERO said its next public report would be a School Evaluation Report.

Enrolling

Children who live in the home zone have the right to enrol, and proof of address is needed. Out-of-zone places are offered under the enrolment scheme, by ballot when there are more applicants than places. Each year the board decides how many out-of-zone places are likely to be available and advertises how to apply. Enrolment is through an online form.

Rūmaki has its own criteria. New entrants ideally have time at kōhanga reo or a fluent speaker at home, and every child needs a good understanding of spoken Māori, checked with an oral language assessment.
