What ERO found

The Education Review Office’s latest report on the school is a School Report from May 2026. ERO found that most learners meet or exceed expected levels in reading and maths, a large majority do so in writing, and results are evening out across groups.

Learners feel they belong, live out the school values and take pride in their school, and teachers use structured approaches in reading, writing and maths in calm, inclusive classrooms.

The school’s inquiry model helps learners take charge of their learning and follow their interests, learners with complex needs are well supported, and ERO described governance as well informed, with close links to the community and iwi.

ERO’s main concern is attendance: regular attendance is well short of the government target and is not yet improving, so leaders are to work their attendance plan harder and the board is to check its effect regularly.

The other priorities are to keep the school curriculum in step with changes to The New Zealand Curriculum, embed structured literacy and maths across all classes, make assessment more reliable and use the data better, keep a close eye on writing, and support teachers through a clear professional growth cycle. ERO said its next public report would be a School Report.

Enrolling

Children who live in the home zone have the right to enrol, with proof of address. Out-of-zone places are offered under the enrolment scheme, by ballot when there are more applicants than places, with priority going first to siblings of current students, then siblings of former students and children of board employees, then all other students.

Whether out-of-zone places are available can change from year to year. The school publishes its out-of-zone places, application form and ballot dates on its website.
