Taupo School is a state, co-educational primary school for Years 1 to 6 at 99 Tamamutu Street, Taupo. It opened in 1894 and had 459 students on its roll at 1 September 2026.
Its home zone includes parts of Rangatira Park, Acacia Bay, Nukuhau and Taupō Central; the zone map below shows the full boundary.
The school’s site says te reo Māori and te ao Māori are woven through the curriculum, and the school is part of the Ministry’s donation scheme, so families are not asked for a school donation. Kelly Club runs before and after school care and holiday programmes for the school.

MELAA: Middle Eastern, Latin American and African.
Stand-downs and suspensions
Cases per 1,000 students in 2025, adjusted for the ages of the school’s students, compared with all New Zealand schools.
Suspensions: fewer than 5 cases in 2025, so no rate is shown.
These measure how a school responds to behaviour, and schools set their own thresholds, so they are not a measure of how students behave.
What ERO found
The Education Review Office’s latest report on the school is a School Report from September 2025. ERO found that the school has worked closely with iwi, parents and whānau since its previous review, and that iwi support has grown teachers’ confidence in te reo Māori, tikanga and mātauranga Māori.
A mana whenua theme shapes the curriculum around the local environment and history, students get regular te reo Māori lessons, and the school is trialling a Reo Rua class.
ERO judged that success and progress are rising, that teaching is lifting progress in reading, writing and maths, and that students with complex needs are well supported. A large majority of students reach the expected level in reading and maths, with writing lower. Students feel they belong, and the school reports clearly to families.
ERO’s priorities for the school are to lift regular attendance, which is close to the government target, to review its curriculum so it lines up with the new English and maths requirements, and to make sure students are ready as they move between the early stages of the English curriculum.

Enrolling
Children who live in the home zone have the right to enrol, and proof of address is required. Out-of-zone places are offered under the enrolment scheme, by ballot when there are more applicants than places. The school publishes its out-of-zone places and ballot dates on its enrolment page each year.
